Reinetas Apple Syrup is a mild laxative that is very well tolerated and can be administered to a wide range of patients suffering from constipation, from children, pregnant women and adults in general. It is especially indicated for situations of simple constipation in children, as it is a non-aggressive medicine with a pleasant taste.

Pippin Apple Syrup contains 3 active substances, namely Senna, in the form of an infusion, Mannitol and Pippin Apple Juice Concentrate.

• Senna increases the peristalsis of the colon by acting locally on the mucosa and on Auerbach's plexus. Glycosides are absorbed along the intestinal tract and the active compounds obtained by their hydrolysis are largely excreted by the colon which is stimulated in this way.
• Mannitol is an alcohol that, being poorly absorbed throughout the gastrointestinal tract, will exert an osmotic effect, thus establishing a gradient that facilitates the passage of water into the intestinal lumen, increasing the fecal volume and making it more fluid, which stimulates the intestinal motility.
• Concentrated Pippin Apple Extract has been used for many years for its laxative properties. This effect, initially recognized only empirically, is currently attributed to malic acid and its natural salts, which are found in large quantities in Reineta apples and which, therefore, have proved to be very useful in the treatment of constipation.

Composition of Pippin Apple Syrup:

The active substances are:

Pippin Apple Extract, Mannitol and Senna Extract.

Each milliliter of Pippin Apples Syrup contains 2.7 mg of Pippin Apples extract, 0.61 mg of Mannitol and 2.35 mg of Senna extract (senoside b: 0.117-0.235 mg).

The other components are:

Sorbitol, Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), Propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), Sucrose and Purified water.

How to use

The usual dose is:

• Children up to 1 year: teaspoon (5 ml) at bedtime
• 1 to 6 years: 1 dessert spoon (10 ml) at bedtime
• 6 to 12 years: 1 tablespoon (15 ml) at bedtime
• Adults: 2 tablespoons (2x15 ml) at bedtime
