Dulcosoft® is a medical device that contains Macrogol 4000, a substance that acts by retaining water in the colon, which favors the softening of the stool, thus facilitating its evacuation, making it more comfortable. In this way, DulcoSoft® provides a natural sensation of relief from constipation.
Dulcosoft® is unflavored and can be mixed with any hot or cold beverage such as water, fruit juice or tea. It should preferably be taken in a single dose, in the morning.

DulcoSoft® is available in two forms of presentation: liquid (250ml oral solution), which can be indicated for children from 2 years of age; and in sachets (powder for oral solution 10 g, 20 sachets), from 8 years of age.
As it is not absorbed, DulcoSoft® has a high safety profile and can be taken by pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children, the elderly, people with a controlled sodium intake or intolerant to gluten, and by diabetics.
Dulcosoft can be useful in patients with hemorrhoids, with complaints of hard and dry stools, by avoiding excessive effort in defecation.

What is DulcoSoft® and what is it used for

Constipation is usually characterized by low frequency of bowel movements. However, if the fecal mass remains in the colon for a long time, more water can be absorbed and the stool becomes hard and dry. The main ingredient of DulcoSoft® is Macrogol 4000, an osmotic active substance. Macrogol 4000 has a high capacity to bind to water. It acts in the hydration of the feces, softening them and making the evacuation easier and more comfortable. Thus, the hard stools are softened and the stool volume increases. This leads to increased bowel movement and facilitates defecation, providing a natural feeling of relief.

Always take DulcoSoft® exactly as described in its instruction leaflet. Talk to your healthcare professional (eg pharmacist) if you have questions.

Dulcosoft is unflavored, so it can be mixed with any drink, hot or cold. Both forms of presentation must be diluted in liquid before use.

Within the recommended maximum and minimum dose range, start with the minimum dose. If necessary, you can increase the dose, according to your individual needs, and can be taken daily or every other day. For each age range, the appropriate dose is the lowest dose that allows you to pass stools with a smooth consistency on a regular basis. Take daily, preferably in a single dose in the morning.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:

Adults and children from 8 years: 20 – 40 ml of oral solution daily (equivalent to 10 – 20 g of Macrogol 4000) or 1 to 2 sachets of powder for oral solution.
Children from 4 to 7 years old: 16 – 32 ml of oral solution daily (equivalent to 8 -16 g of Macrogol 4000).
Children from 2 to 3 years: 8 – 16 ml of oral solution daily (equivalent to 4 – 8 g of Macrogol 4000).

Administration to children under 8 years of age should preferably be supervised by a healthcare professional (eg pharmacist).

The dose is measured using the measuring cup included in the pack and can be adjusted according to the effect obtained.

Precautions:

Administration to pregnant women and children under 8 years of age should preferably be supervised by a healthcare professional. Dulcosoft® should not be taken for longer than 28 days.

Contraindications:

Do not take Dulcosoft® if you are allergic to macrogol 4000 or any other ingredient, if you have any severe inflammatory bowel disease or toxic megacolon, digestive perforation or risk of digestive perforation, ileus, suspected intestinal obstruction, symptomatic stricture or painful abdominal syndromes of undetermined cause.
